Well before sunrise on race morning, a dedicated team of SANTI sewadars — from young Punjabi School students to senior committee members — assembled tables, water drums, and thousands of paper cups along the Darwin City2Surf marathon route.
As waves of competitive runners, joggers, walkers, and families passed through the checkpoint, the Sangat formed an energetic line of encouragement — handing out cups of cool water, clearing used cups from the roadway to keep the route safe, and cheering every participant toward the finish line.
For the Sikh community in the Top End, staffing the City2Surf hydration station embodies Chardi Kala (ever-rising optimism and positive energy) in public life: supporting healthy living, volunteering for Darwin’s major athletic events, and showing young Sikhs the joy of selfless community service.
